Why
is it important to evaluate a Source?
The
things to remember when evaluating a web cite is that anyone can
post a web page on whatever topic they wish too. That means your
neighbor can post a page on the proper steps to follow when performing
open heart surgery even if he has never done it and really works
as a Fed Ex man. So our Fed Ex man's page could be purely opinion
when you may be looking for medical fact.
Another
thing to remember that unlike books, many of the pages on the Internet
do not have thorough copyright information, like a date when the
page was posted, or even an authors name. This will make it more
difficult to cite the page if you want to use it as a reference
in another publication.
